Preparation of the management plans for the three Sudan eastern states forests on sustainable basis and the follow up and supervision of the implementation of the action plans for the rehabilitation and production programs. Major achievements The final feeling of the eucalyptus plantation of New Halfa forest circle covering an area of twenty hectares had been monitored and evaluated against the planed estimated total volumes and types of products. The stand of eucalyptus plantation at New Halfa sugar factory covering an area of one hundred fifty hectares was demarcated and inventoried to estimate its final production and the final felling processes was supervised and compared to the estimated volumes. The final felling program for Hawata forests circle including five riverian forests covering an area of two hundreds seventy three hectares was supervised at total yield of the products was measured against the estimated production

the geographical scope of the project covers Gezers, Gedarif ,Kassala and Khartoun States where in Gezers, Gedarif ,Kassala States the three projects components were implemented while in Khartoum State beside conducting the required communication and admin purposes with the main actors and partners the main component of the project (which the Training and Capacity building) was implemented . The main objectives of the project is the provision of training and capacity building for the refugees and natives living around the refugees affected areas at Gedarf and Kassala States to rehabilitate the existing forests and establishing village wood lots by involving the communities, the use of energy savings improved cooking stove, and improve the livelihood of the refugees and natives at the project sites by improving the productivity of their field’s crops and livestock. Major achievements: Five hundred and forty refugees and native (males and females) round Shagarab, Umgargure, Karkara and Wad sharajei refugee’s camps had been trained for collecting trees seeds, establishing trees nurseries, the adoption of agroforestry system by planting fields crops and valuable trees by seedlings and seeds and the production of improved cooking stoves. Two villages woodlots had been established at Shagarab (woman wood lot) and Wad sharefei (irrigated tongya plantation). Twelve tons of seeds were collected by the trained refugees and natives from Elrawashda forest, .seven schools nurseries was established at five refugees camps and two at Elgarba at Wadshareifei villages with the capacity of twelve thousands each planted at schools public areas and residential houses.

Reservation of new forests, protection and rehabilitation of the existing locality and communities gum arabic forests, the establishment of private and community wood lots and the management of government and private forests on sustainable bases to provide their productive and protective roles and to improve the living standards and the livelihood of the vulnerable communities. Major achievements Twenty eight gum arabic producers associations had been established, trained and planted one thousand six hundreds hectares of gum arabic producing species by the agroforestry system in their gum arabic wood lots. One thousands five hundreds hectares in governmental forests was planted and four hundreds small farmers living round the locality forests were involved on the planting and rehabilitation of these forests by planting trees seedlings and crops together(tongia system). Three hundred thousand seedlings of shade trees had been distributed to the locality natives and public institutes with 76% survival rate.

planning, implementing, monitoring and controlling forestry and environmental related programs by involving the different stake holders including local communities, governments at different levels (Federal, State and localities) nongovernmental organizations , UN funded projects addressing the same or relevant areas of rehabilitating the natural habitat(including forests, range, soil, wild life) to improve the livelihood and living standers of local communities by improving the productivities of forests crops, field crops, livestock and to contribute on the adaptation and mitigation of vulnerable communities to climate changes, provide assistance and support for settling land disputes by communicating the different relevant parties including government authorities at different levels land users ( especially farmers, herders and gum Arabic collectors).

For achieving the objectives of the project, the population (both nationals and refugees) has sufficient access to energies and benefits from the natural resources and shared environment better protection , that took place by the adoption of the required different interventions which are targeting the rehabilitation of the natural resources by the participatory management approaches that involves the refugees and nationals communities and the training and capacity building for the construction and use of improved cooking stoves and the provision of biomass alternative energy sources (LPG and solar units) for cooking, lighting (with the impact of reducing 25% of the annual consumption of fire wood by the beneficiaries of both communities. The project has adopted the agroforestry, Collaborative forest management practices and home gardens for securing food, self-reliance and improving livelihood for the refugees and hosting communities that resulted in savings 35% of the cost of food stuff for the beneficiaries. For rehabilitating the forests covers at the project sites damaged by the refuges and the hosting communities 1365 ha of trees was established with 85% coverage.

A project funded by GEF, the Government of Sudan and supervised by IFAD, the PMU based in Khartoum for communication and admin purposes and implementing component two ( Development of a sustainable management plan for the forests established by the AR activities,), component three (The adoption of the energy alternatives for the biomass) and component four( Training and Capacity building) while all the project five components were implemented at Gedarif and Kassala States. Description of duties (components) and achievements: Component 1: Afforestation/reforestation activities to increase the national carbon sequestration potential to 108000 tons of stocked carbon the achieved carbon stocked is 190863 tons (due to the increased acreage of the plantation from 10000 to 15000 hectors as per the directions of the project steering committee). Component 2: Participatory Management plan developed (by a national consultant) by involving the different stakeholders for the sustainable management of the carbon stocks. Component 3: One thousands seven hundred and forty six LPG units, 3672 improved stoves and 2626 solar units has been distributed to the targeted communities resulting in reducing GHG emissions by 56149 C0 tons. Component 4: The project has conducted 37 (onboard and abroad) training and capacity building sessions targeted technical staff, decision makers, community's representatives on issues related to climate changes generics, food securities and natural resources' management, 782 participants were benefited from these sessions (the appraisal targeted number for this component was 120 participants) The project was terminated in the 30th of September 2019 and will be closed in the thirty first of March 2020.

The awareness raising, training and capacity building for natives at urban and rural areas, farmers, local communities, students and decision makers about the productive and protective roles of trees(including building materials, fuel wood and non wood forest products ) and the importance of rehabilitating, reserving and protecting forests by adopting policies and legislations that support and insure the sustainable participatory management of the natural resources including forests. Major achievements The foundation of the shelter belts and wind breaks fund for the establishment of the 10% shelter belts in mechanized schemes in Gedarif State (funded by the state ministry of agriculture, the gum Arabic company, the state farmers union, the gum Arabic association and implemented by the forest national corporation). Thirty-five gum Arabic associations and seven village’s wood lots had been established. Four thousand Hectares of shelter belts established in the mechanized large and small scale farms with the participation of the farmer's owners.

Forestry Extension Officer for the Fuel Wood Development for Energy Project in Eastern States (A project funded by the FAO)
The awareness raising, training and capacity building for natives at urban and rural areas, farmers, local communities, students and decision makers in the Eastern States of Sudan about the rehabilitation and management of the existing natural forest stands for the production of fuel wood and charcoal to meet demands for energy from the biomass by adopting the participatory management approaches for the sustainable management of the natural resources. Major achievements: Nine community’s wood lots associations had been established in Gash area planting ten wood lots of Eucalyptus plantations covering an area of three hectares each. Two schools nurseries and three schools woodlots were established in Kassala town. One hundred thousand seedlings was planted in public and residential houses in rural and urban areas in state and one wind break with and area of six hectares was established at Tahadie village.
